A combined ankle boot for the cold months

A good women's ankle boot has to hold the ankle, be comfortable from the first step and add some personality. The 21600 manages this with a stretch fabric shaft that adapts to the ankle, a soft suede body, a leather-protected toe and a wedge that spreads the weight. The front zip lets you put them on in seconds.

The rubber sole, with a marked tread, improves grip, and the wedge raises the heel by around 4 cm in a stable way.

It is a logical option if you want an ankle boot with character for autumn and a mild winter that does not depend on a thin heel.

Design and style: Black and Brown

Black combines black suede with a stretch shaft in the same tone and a heel counter with an animal print in browns, which adds the only touch of contrast. Brown plays with a chocolate-toned suede, a shaft in metallic taupe leather and a printed counter in darker brown. In both cases the sole and the toe match the whole.

The silhouette is compact and sporty, with a rounded toe and a sole with volume that gives an urban mountain-boot look.

Materials and finish

The outer combines suede on the body, stretch fabric and leather on the shaft and smooth leather on the toe, with an animal-print panel at the heel. The inner lining is soft and the insole adds comfort. The sole is rubber, with a marked tread and a light wedge.

The front zip is metal and is complemented by a small rear pull tab to help put them on.

How to choose an ankle boot with a stretch shaft

When choosing an ankle boot with a stretch shaft, look at the material, the sole, the closure and the fit. A stretch shaft adapts to the ankle better than a rigid leather one. Soft suede gives warmth, though it asks for care. A sole with a tread helps you not to slip. And a front zip makes them easier to put on and lets you adjust the shaft.

The 21600 brings these points together in a combined design that is easy to wear.

Everyday comfort

The comfort of an ankle boot shows in three things: that it does not squeeze, that it holds the heel well and that the sole cushions. The 21600 has a comfort insole, a soft lining, a stretch shaft and a wedge sole, so you walk naturally all day.

A practical tip: if you wear thick socks or have a high instep, try half a size up. With fine tights, your usual size will be right. As well as whole sizes, there are half sizes (39.5 and 41.5) to fine-tune the fit.

When to wear them

For everyday wear, the smart-casual office, city walks, travel and the autumn, mild winter and spring months, or for anyone who wants a comfortable ankle boot with character.

They are not mountain or snow footwear: they have no waterproof membrane and suede needs care. For heavy rain, snow or very uneven ground, specific footwear is better.

How to style them

With straight or skinny jeans, corduroy trousers, thick leggings, midi skirts, knitted dresses or a long coat. Black goes with almost everything; Brown goes with beiges, greens, navy and earth tones.

Tips for use and care

Suede marks with water and rubbing: brush it dry with a specific brush and apply a suede protector before the first outings. Clean the leather with a damp cloth. If they get wet, let them dry in the air, away from heat sources, with newspaper inside. Alternate two pairs of shoes if you wear them daily so the lining dries completely between uses.

Size guide

The model comes in EU 35 to 43, with a standard fit: neither especially small nor especially large, and with half sizes 39.5 and 41.5. If you are between two sizes, choose the larger one, above all if you will wear thick socks or have a high instep. Approximate UK equivalents: EU 35 is about UK 2.5, EU 36 about UK 3.5, EU 37 about UK 4, EU 38 about UK 5, EU 39 about UK 6, EU 40 about UK 6.5, EU 41 about UK 7.5, EU 42 about UK 8 and EU 43 about UK 9; they are indicative only and vary between makers. If in doubt, write to us and we will help.

Care and maintenance

  • Brush the suede dry with a specific brush, always in the same direction.
  • Apply a suede protector before wearing and repeat it from time to time.
  • Let them dry at room temperature, with newspaper inside and away from radiators.
  • Do not put them in the washing machine or the dryer, which damage the suede, the bonding and the stretch shaft.

With these basic steps, the ankle boot keeps its look for a long time.

Our verdict at Calzados Vesga

We think it is a smart buy for anyone who wants a current, comfortable ankle boot that is easy to put on. Its strengths are the stretch shaft, the front zip and the treaded sole; its limit is that it has no waterproof membrane and that suede needs care.
