55 Years Finding The Perfect Shoe
(Yes, It Exists)
More than half a century ago, in 1971, Julián and Balbina opened a door on San Juan de Ortega Street in Burgos. It was a shoe store. It shared space with Bodega Vesga, another family business that was important in the history, but it soon became clear: shoes were what we did best.
But something special happened in that store.
Year after year, customer after customer, we realized something nobody said out loud: people weren't looking for the prettiest shoe. They were looking for the shoe that DIDN'T HURT. That lasted. That looked good but wasn't torture.
For 55 years, we've done one thing well: finding THAT shoe. For you.
Today, in 2026, we're still in Burgos. But not just at Plaza Mayor. Also in your Google searches, in your WhatsApp at 11pm when you have a question, on your couch when you try before buying. Because we believe feet deserve more than an algorithm.
Our Story: From a Store to an Experience
1971 - The First Door (C/ San Juan de Ortega, 11)
Julián and Balbina opened Calzados Vesga in a different era: there was no Amazon, no Zalando. There were shoe stores. People who knew your feet. That was us.
In that store they shared space with Bodega Vesga. It was important in family history, but it soon became clear where the future was. Something special happened in that store: customers came back. Not because it was fashionable (it wasn't). They came back because the shoes lasted. Because the advice was real. Because they didn't sell them what made the most profit, but what worked for them.
1985 - The Change (C/ San Juan, 40)
After 14 years, Julián and Balbina opened a new store. More modern. Better located. On the same street, but one step forward. That was their symbol: always improve. They closed the old one. They bet on the new one.
2000 - The Second Generation (C/ Vitoria, 171)
Their children, Julián and Susana, join the company. They bring energy. They bring ideas. They decide something bold: open ANOTHER store.
So Vesga has two locations. Two stories. Two teams. It worked well.
2010 - The Turning Point (Plaza Mayor, 17)
We closed the Gamonal store. But not to go backwards. To focus on the best: Plaza Mayor. The heart of Burgos. The best location. A bigger space where the entire Vesga family could work together.
But the real decision was another: we kept two stores open (San Juan and Plaza Mayor) for 5 more years. Because we find it hard to make decisions that affect the team, loyal customers, history.
Quality boots that last years. That's Vesga since 1971.
2015 - The Digital Leap (Our Strategic Decision)
We closed San Juan. We consolidated Plaza Mayor. And something that seemed impossible 55 years ago happened: Vesga was no longer just a store. It became an experience that started in Google and ended on your feet.
This was a strategic decision we made years before the pandemic made it popular. It wasn't COVID that took us digital. It was our vision that the future would be in combining physical store and online truly.
Today, in 2026: Most of the business is still physical store. The rest is online. It's not that we chose a side. It's that we balanced both. Your purchase where you want. Your exchange where you need it. Your question answered on WhatsApp in less than 1 hour.
The physical store is still the heart. But now it has wings.
In Charge: Julián and Susana (The Second Generation)
Julián Vesga Calderón is the councillor for Economic Development and New Technologies at the Burgos Town Hall. Susana is... well, the one who keeps everything running when Julián is in plenary sessions (joke, but it's partly true).
But here, at Vesga, they have a clear role: keep alive the essence of what Julián and Balbina (their parents) started in 1971.
How? Both do everything. There's no strict division of roles. Today Julián attends a customer. Tomorrow Susana solves a logistics problem. The next day, both analyze what brands to bring next season.

01 | We Don't Sell What Makes the Most Profit
In a physical store, we make better margins than online.
The easy logic would be: push everything offline. Earn the maximum.
We don't do it.
We tell you the truth: if you need to try, come to the store. If you're sure, buy online. Free exchange in both cases. Because the money we earn is the least of it. What matters is that shoe being YOURS.
(This costs us money. But we like sleeping well.)
02 | We Know The Brands We Carry
We're specialists in physical stores, not marketplaces.
Hey Dude, Merrell, Geox, Nike, Converse, New Balance, Gore-Tex, Skechers... We don't carry 500 brands. We carry the ones we know deeply.
Does that mean something is missing? Yes. Does it mean someone sometimes looks for a brand we don't have? Also.
But when you ask "what do you recommend?", we don't give you a catalog. We give you the truth.
"That brand is good but the width is small."
"That one will last 2 years, that other one 5."
"For mountain, Merrell. For casual, Hey Dude."
That's the difference between being a salesman and being an expert.
03 | Free Exchange And Returns. The First 15 Days. In Store Or By Mail.
Because we know that sometimes:

- You change your mind (it's normal)
- It just doesn't feel right (happens)
15 days from purchase. Free exchange and returns. With original packaging and unworn (no joking: if you tried it on, it doesn't count ?). In store or by mail, you decide.

A shoe is not an accessory. It's a tool. You spend 8-10 hours a day inside it.
That's why we choose brands that last. That use materials that withstand. That have real warranties. Gore-Tex for rain. Recycled rubber for sustainability. Real leather where it matters. Because a cheap shoe that lasts 1 year costs more than a quality one that lasts 5.
2 | COMFORT
A pretty shoe that hurts is a problem, not a solution.
